Dos Gonzalez cigars are made in the Dominican Republic by the General Cigar Company Dominica. The company was established in 1975 and now has tobacco cultivations and factories in a few countries. Since it oversees the cultivation as well, the company has been able to maintain good control over the production process. Their main operations are centered on the Cibao valley, where more 2200 workers are engaged in cigar production. The name of the cigar is a tribute to the famous Felix Gonzalez who worked for the company as a leading expert on tobacco and cigar making. In his opinion, one could only really know tobacco when it was felt and touched. He passed away at a relatively young age of 59 years in 2011.
Bundled Dos Gonzalez Cigars
Usually bundled cigars are considered shoddy and cheap, compared to cigars available in fancy wooden boxes and other packaging. However, Dos Gonzalez has changed this outlook, by producing quality cigars for a cheaper price that is available in bundles of ten. The resounding success of these cigars is mainly due to great quality available at a very low price. The brand is a favourite of not only casual smokers but of cigar Aficionados as well.
Construction and Appearance
Even though Dos Gonzalez cigars are handmade in the Dominican Republic, the filler is a blend of quality Mexican and Dominican tobaccos. The filler is wrapped in Colorado Maduro wrapper made from Sumatran seed, grown in Ecuador, with a Connecticut binder. The construction is good, but the medium dark wrapper has quite a few veins. As you light up, the draw is very comfortable, and burn is quite even, not requiring any relights.
Flavors and Aroma
Dos Gonzalez cigars are not very complex, and they provide very good taste. In the beginning, the smoker will experience many nuances of fruity and grassy flavors over a background of creaminess. As the smoke progresses, the fruity flavors are taken over by stronger earthy and coffee flavors, which give the cigar its medium strong body. In the last couple of inches, the cigar produces distinct aroma of wood and leather, which provides a luxurious feel to the whole smoking experience. The combination of the lighter Connecticut binder with the darker Sumatran Maduro wrapper provides gentle nuances of spice, which are hard to miss. People who like medium to strong body will definitely appreciate these cigars, they are an excellent choice for complimenting a cup of coffee or beer, and are great as an everyday smoke.
Sizes
Dos Gonzalez cigars are available in Robusto, Churchill, Toro, and Rothschild sizes in single bundles of ten cigars, and individually as well. The Robusto has a length of 14 cm with a ring gauge of 50, and the Churchill is slightly bigger, but because of their special construction, the flavors come through in all sizes of cigars. All the cigars provide good smoking time with their even burns. You can expect a Robusto to last for about maximum of eighty minutes, whereas the Churchill can last up to ninety minutes.
