Types of Private Stock Cigars
There could be some confusion in knowing whether you are smoking the original, as there seems to be difference in the design of the bands. There are certain cigars, which have a red and gold band with the words “Private Stock”, and then there are cigars with a red band with just “PS” printed on it. Both are the same brand of cigars, and maybe the difference in bands is to indicate long and medium filler tobaccos.
Medium filler is available in the following sizes and vitolas -
Robusto - 5.1 inches x 50 ring gauge
Corona - 5 inches x 42 ring gauge
Tubos No. 1 - 6.8 inches x 50 ring gauge
Toro - 6.5 inches x 48 ring gauge
Private Stock No. 2
The No. 2 Double Corona has a length of 6 inches and 48 ring gauge. The filler is a blend of quality ungraded Dominican tobaccos, and the binder is Ecuadorian. The light colored wrapper is natural Connecticut shade, and the combination of these leaves gives mild to medium body to the cigar.
The construction is excellent, as expected of a Davidoff cigar, and the natural wrapper is free of any blemishes. Even though the cigar is packed firmly, it has an excellent draw. The burn is straight and even, but the ash does not hold well and drops before an inch. At each puff, the smoker can expect copious amount of rich bluish smoke.
The No. 2 has a pleasant nutty flavor with nuances of herb that complement each other well. After smoking a third, there is distinct flavor of cork, which you would smell in a good wine bottle. The cigar at this time also gives a bit of oak flavor. The cigar remains cool for the most part, and builds heat slightly in the last two inches.
Private Stock No. 1
The No. 1 is also available in a dark maduro wrapper, apart from the light Connecticut shade. However, most leaves are grown in the Dominican Republic. Compared to other Davidoff cigars, Private Stock may not have the rich flavors and complexity, but are highly affordable smokes for everyday use. Smokers who prefer mild to medium body will find the No.1 with the maduro wrapper quite suitable. If you were looking for value for money, and Davidoff quality, Private Stock would be the ideal choice.
