You might still know the house of Ron Botucal under its former name Ron Diplomatico. Until 2012, the brand was also known as such in Germany – until a trademark dispute made a name change necessary.
Ron Botucal or Ron Diplomatico? The Story Behind the Name
In Germany, there was already a cognac called Diplomatico at Aldi – hard to believe, right? Of course, discount store brandy and fine rum from Venezuela play in completely different leagues. To avoid any confusion, the rum has since been marketed under the name of the distillery: Botucal.

Only the name changed – the quality and recipe remained the same. Botucal continues to stand for excellent rum from Venezuela. Thanks to ideal conditions and traditional craftsmanship, fine rums are produced here that, after distillation in copper pot stills, mature in ex-bourbon and Scotch casks and develop complex aromas.

The most famous rum from the house of Botucal is the Reserva Exclusiva. This rum, aged for 12 years, has earned over 20 international awards. For fans of exquisite spirits, we recommend the Ambassador Selection – an aromatically intense blend, impressively finished in sherry casks.
