Dan Tobacco: Pipe Tobacco from Schleswig-Holstein
Since its founding by Heiko Behrens in 1972, Dan Pipe was known as a specialist retailer for Danish pipes and catalog sales. Due to batch fluctuations and production issues, the decision was made in 1991 to establish its own pipe tobacco production.
The company settled in an old malting facility in Lauenburg, near Hamburg, and now operates a fully equipped tobacco factory. Even specialties like fine flake tobaccos are pressed and prepared in-house. This has allowed Dan Tobacco to completely free itself from pre-manufactured tobacco products from Danish production.
Dan Tobacco and the Art of Pipe Smoking
Dan Tobacco, also known as DTM, has particularly made a name for itself in the area of aromatic tobaccos. Only natural aromas are used, and their high quality is noticeable the moment you step into the facility. Michael Apitz, who also manages the retail store, is the creative mind behind new blends and is particularly known for his preference for Danish tobaccos.

The popular S.V.H. (formerly Sweet Vanilla Honeydew) is among the most interesting and best representatives of its kind. Its unmistakable aroma comes from natural vanilla essences, complemented by a slightly fruity casing. Unlike many vanilla-flavored tobaccos, its base is not Black Cavendish. Instead, Dan Tobacco uses a light, slightly pressed Ready Rubbed Virginia, characterized by its high content of natural essences.
