Black Label Trading Company: Unique Design Meets Intense Flavor
The Black Label Trading Company immediately stands out with its extraordinary packaging. With motifs like skulls, animal bones, or tattooed hands inspired by Dürer, the brand distinguishes itself from the crowd. It was this unconventional aesthetic that impressed importer Martina Kleinlagel at the IPCPR 2019 trade show, where she first discovered the cigars. Since then, we’ve been fortunate to have these special cigars available in Germany.
A Journey Around the World: The Founding Couple
Behind the brand are Angela and James Brown, a couple from Texas who found a new home in Nicaragua during their world travels. What began as an adventure with guided tours eventually led to their passion for cigars and the creation of their own brand. With great dedication, they craft cigars that reflect the culture and intensity of Nicaragua.
Tabacalera Oveja Negra: Boutique Quality with Personality
The cigars are produced at their own factory, the Tabacalera Oveja Negra (Spanish for "The Black Sheep"). True to its name, the factory has earned a loyal following for its attention to detail and the quality of its handmade cigars. With intense blends and a distinctive style, the Black Label Trading Company sets new standards.
James Brown is the creative mind behind the artwork and the iconic cigar bands. His wife Angela manages the brand’s social media marketing. Together, they create cigars with bold blends, predominantly using Nicaraguan tobacco. These cigars are primarily designed for seasoned aficionados rather than beginners or morning enjoyment.

Since its US debut in 2013, the brand has established itself with series like Lawless, Salvation, Royalty, and Last Rites. A standout is the evolved Last Rites blend, the Viaticum. Other highlights include the robust Morph and the strictly limited Super Deluxe.
New series, such as the expressive Orthodox, the gentle Deliverance, and the visually stunning Santa Muerte, complete the portfolio.
