Bruno Nuttens Pipes: The Path to Perfection
Bruno Nuttens, a Belgian who now lives and works in France, is a passionate pipe maker. His love for pipes began as a smoker before he acquired an old collection of pipes in 2012. With great patience and craftsmanship, he restored these pipes and taught himself the necessary techniques for repairing old pipes.
In 2013, he visited the French "pipe mecca" of St. Claude and met Pierre Morel, an experienced freehand pipe maker. From him, Bruno learned many craft techniques and acquired old machines essential for pipe production, which often lie unused in St. Claude.
The Pipes of Bruno Nuttens
In 2016, Bruno Nuttens began making his own pipes. To perfect his skills, he completed an internship with Tom Eltang, a Danish pipe-making legend. There, he discovered a new, aesthetic pipe-making philosophy. This exchange inspired him to continuously improve and execute his craft at the highest level.
Since 2018, Bruno Nuttens has been fully dedicated to his craft as an independent pipe maker. He left behind his IT career – a bold move that has paid off. He is also very active on social media platforms, using them successfully to introduce his works to a broad audience.
Craftsmanship in Perfection
Bruno Nuttens’ pipes are distinguished by their unmistakable signature. Some designs are reminiscent of Paolo Becker’s delicate "spaghetti shanks," while others are inspired by Italian classicism. His "Bings" – long billiard pipes with thin shanks – are particularly popular. These models do not accommodate 9mm filters, although they sometimes fit 6mm filters.
These pipes are optimally suited for the increasingly popular Gizeh activated carbon filters. Larger models are available for 9mm filters.
Handmade, Heritage, Vintage: Pipes by Bruno Nuttens
Bruno Nuttens offers three quality levels, distinguished by production and materials:
- Handmade: Individually shaped bowls with hand-cut stems, featuring creative designs.
- Heritage: Pipes made from 30 to 60-year-old pre-turned bowls. These treasures were discovered in St. Claude.
- Vintage: Crafted from exceptionally old wood, often from Algeria, complemented by antique silver fittings.
French Pipe Philosophy
Regardless of design, every pipe follows the philosophy of "function over form." Aesthetic design is important, but the primary focus is on delivering the perfect tobacco enjoyment. Particularly valued is the aged, often decades-old wood. Despite their high quality, the pipes remain affordable, ranging from €130 to €500. There’s something for every taste and budget.
We are thrilled to include this talented French pipe maker in our range. Try one of his pipes – it surely won’t be your last!
