Cain Cigars – Powerful Enjoyment with a High Ligero Content
Straight Ligero – this term represents powerful cigars, often originating from Nicaragua. In recent years, these robust cigars have gained popularity in Germany, thanks to the importer Wolfertz GmbH. But how did this brand, known for using only selected tobaccos and offering particularly strong blends, come into being?
Cain, like NUB, is a brand under the project label Studio Tobac. Since 2007, this label has been part of the Oliva Company. Studio Tobac brings together selected experts from Oliva, known as “The Board,” responsible for exclusive creations. The unique Cain cigar blends are crafted by Gilberto Jr., who develops cigars with a high Ligero content in exceptional quality.
The Tobacco of Cain Ligero
While NUB gained attention with an impressive 60-ring gauge upon their release, Cain focused on strength and high nicotine content. Even before their official debut in 2009, robust cigars for experienced enthusiasts existed. Cain, however, prioritized the consistent use of three different Ligero tobaccos from Nicaragua. The term “Straight Ligero” emphasizes the focus on this type of tobacco in every blend. Despite their robust nature, the cigars are pleasantly smokable. They reveal their full potential when stored at slightly higher humidity levels in the humidor.
The Ligero tobaccos used come from the regions of Estelí, Condega, and Jalapa. These tobaccos are processed at Tabacalera Oliva into series such as Serie F, Maduro, Sun Grown (known as Cain Habano in the US), and Daytona. Ligero tobacco, harvested from the uppermost leaves of the plant, is particularly sun-drenched and nutrient-rich. Tobaccos from Estelí are the strongest, while those from Condega impress with strength and complex flavors. Jalapa tobaccos are characterized by a softer and more refined profile.
What Makes Cain Cigars Special
The various series consist of over 80% Ligero tobaccos, making them particularly appealing to experienced aficionados. The Daytona, the most recent series, offers a milder and lighter smoking experience compared to its predecessors like Sun Grown, Maduro, or Serie F. The Cain Sun Grown received 91 points from Cigar Snob, the Daytona was awarded 92 points by Cigar Journal, and the Serie F also scored 92 points with Cigar Aficionado. The Cain NUB line combines the best qualities of both brands. Alternatively, you might explore Nicarao, or consider Cuban classics like H. Upmann, Ramon Allones, Cuaba, or Vegas Robaina.
