Crowned Heads Cigars: Craftsmanship With a Musical Soul
The decision to leave their previous job behind proved to be a golden one. Out of this choice, Crowned Heads was born—a trendy boutique brand that has long achieved cult status among aficionados. Its roots trace back to its founders' former employer, with whom they still maintain business ties today. The fact that these exceptional cigars eventually made their way to Germany is largely thanks to retailer Salih Dalay from Saarbrücken, who was among the first to recognize the potential of these exquisite cigars.
Founded by Former CAO Employees
After CAO was sold to the Scandinavian Tobacco Group in 2007 and its headquarters moved from Nashville to Richmond, four employees decided to forge their own path. Instead of trading Tennessee for Virginia, they stayed true to their hometown of Nashville and founded Crowned Heads—a label that embodies their love for both music and the art of cigars.
Crowned Heads and Ernesto Perez Carrillo
The first creation from Crowned Heads was the Four Kicks. Whether the name hints at the four founders behind the brand remains speculation. What is certain, however, is that these cigars are crafted in the renowned Dominican factory La Alianza by Ernesto Perez Carrillo. Known as the "Godfather of Boutique Cigars," Ernie is a true master of his craft, ensuring top-tier quality. His medium-bodied vitolas, characterized by pronounced wood and leather notes, speak for themselves.
From the Dominican Republic to Nicaragua
While some Crowned Heads series originate from the Dominican Republic, the Juarez is crafted in Estelí, Nicaragua. It is produced at the Tabacalera Pichardo, which is also responsible for the Mil Dias. The name of this series, meaning "a thousand days," refers to its extensive development time—a patience that is reflected in its outstanding quality.
Las Calaveras: A Tribute to a Mexican Tradition
Every year, the limited-edition Las Calaveras Edicion Limitada is released. "Calavera" means skull, and this very symbol adorns the cigar boxes. However, this is not a provocative statement but rather a tribute to Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos, the vibrant holiday honoring deceased loved ones. While sugar skulls are traditionally offered in Mexico on this day, aficionados can indulge in an elegant alternative—a finely crafted cigar from Crowned Heads.
