Daniel Marshall Cigars – From Wood Enthusiast to Cigar Maker
Daniel Marshall is someone who simply gets things done. Looking back on more than 30 years of success in the world of tobacco delights and cigars, it's clear how far he has come – and all from humble beginnings. Back in his youth in Malibu, he probably never imagined that he would one day play in the top league of the cigar industry. Athletic, handy, and with a love for woodworking, it’s no surprise that his first humidors led him straight into the cigar world.

His very first piece was made out of affection – specifically, for his then-girlfriend’s father, a cigar lover. At just 18 years old, Marshall built a small travel humidor box made of teak in the early ’80s. It was so well received that the father encouraged him to approach Dunhill – one of the big names in the industry in the U.S. at the time.
The response came quickly: impressed by the handmade humidor, Daniel was immediately commissioned to build more. That’s when his journey into the cigar world really began – what started as curiosity turned into a true passion.
From Garage to Spotlight: Marshall and His Humidors
Still working out of his home and garage back then, Daniel even sold his self-built wooden sailboat to fuel his young business. His dedication and drive for perfection made his humidors fast favorites among many celebrities – including names like Schwarzenegger, Pacino, and Stallone. Top figures from politics and business also wanted their cigars stored in a handcrafted Marshall humidor. It’s even said that some of them made their way onto the big screen as luxurious props.
Daniel Marshall Cigars – Elegant Smoking Pleasure
The move from humidor maker to launching his own cigar brand was a logical next step. He got support from Manuel Quesada, a true expert whose family has been crafting exceptional Caribbean cigars for over 100 years. Originally from Spain, their path took them via Cuba to the Dominican Republic, where they still produce premium cigars under the MATASA name, including brands like Fonseca.
Red Label – More Than Just a Brand Name
Together with Quesada, Daniel developed the Red Label cigars in the mid-1990s, which regularly receive top ratings from critics. The high-quality tobaccos are sourced from renowned producer Plasencia in Nicaragua – a true seal of quality.

But things really got bold when he came up with the idea of finishing cigars with real gold leaf. And yes – it actually works! While smoking, the gold foil stays intact and rests shimmering over the ash. So every draw becomes not just a flavor experience, but a visual one too.
