Drew Estate Cigars: A Dream Comes True
This brand offers a wide range of series and blends, too many to cover in detail here. You can find detailed information on the pages of the respective series. But who is actually behind Drew Estate? Two men with a vision—that's how the success story of this American cigar brand began.
The founders, Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel, shared a common dream: their own cigar factory, La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate. Unlike many traditional manufacturers, they had neither a long family history in cigar production nor roots in Cuba. Their journey began in a tiny kiosk in the World Trade Center in New York City. One can imagine how challenging such a path must have been. But their passion for cigars and their enthusiasm for Nicaragua helped them push through.
At first, the risk was immense, and the two had to overcome numerous challenges. At the end of 1998, Jonathan Drew moved to Estelí, Nicaragua, to bring his vision to life. With little startup capital and a handful of cigar rollers, he embarked on his adventure. He traded his New York apartment for a mattress in the attic of his factory—without even knowing Spanish!
An Extraordinary Cigar Brand: The Rise of Drew Estate
While Jonathan worked in Nicaragua, Marvin held down the fort in Brooklyn, struggling to secure capital for their business. He borrowed money from family, friends, and even some less trustworthy sources.

In the spring of 1999, Jonathan returned to Brooklyn with innovative blends in tow. The Acid cigars were born—flavored cigars with a unique character that revolutionized the U.S. market.
Flavored Cigars
In 2000, another highlight followed: Natural by Drew Estate, known in Germany as Larutan. Additionally, La Vieja Habana made a comeback in 2001, after production was interrupted by Hurricane Mitch, featuring a stylish Art Deco design. Drew Estate even earned a spot on Forbes’ list alongside Apple and Harley-Davidson—a major milestone.
Drew Estate’s “La Gran Fabrica” – An Investment in the Future
In 2007, their new factory was inaugurated—one of the largest in Central America. Spanning nearly 30,000 m², it produces 94,000 hand-rolled cigars daily. Its architecture impresses with open spaces and artistic wall murals. Visitors are welcome to experience the unique atmosphere firsthand.
