Castello Pipes

Castello stands for first-class pipe quality. Carefully selected woods, precise craftsmanship, and elegant design make the pipes from Cantù in Lombardy true highlights. It is no surprise that they are often mentioned in the same breath as brands like Dunhill.

Typical for Castello are the mouthpieces with the white stripe – the so-called “White Bar” – as a trademark. For the American market, there are models featuring a small white “diamond” as an identifying symbol. However, you will search in vain for filter drillings in Castello pipes. Signiore Coppo once explained to us personally: “Our pipes do not need a filter. The wood is excellently selected, perfectly dried, and therefore extremely absorbent. The drillings are precise and slightly wider than those of other manufacturers. Even dedicated filter smokers will experience dry and flavorful smoking moments with them.”

An overview of Castello finishes

The grading system may appear somewhat complex at first glance, but it quickly makes sense. In total, eleven different finishes indicate quality and price – ranging from rustic to luxurious:

1. Sea Rock
Darkly stained and rusticated by hand – a classic with character.

2. Natural Vergin
Natural finish and also rusticated. Very rare and develops a beautiful darker patina over time.

3. Old Antiquari
Sandblasted with deep texture. Rare, as high-quality wood is used that could also be finished smooth.

4. Trade Mark
Smooth surface in walnut brown or reddish tones, with attractive grain patterns.

5. Castello
Lighter tones with beautiful grain patterns and no imperfections. Often featuring straight grain.

6. Collection
An even lighter finish with vivid grain patterns. Flawless in execution.

7. Collection Occhio di Pernice
Cross-grain and birdseye patterns with extraordinary shapes. Very limited.

8. Collection Greatline
Large to very large pipe bowls. Otherwise identical to the Collection series.

9. Collection Greatline Fiammata
Very large bowls with impressive straight-grain patterns. Extremely rare.

10. Perla Nera
Smooth, deeply black stained, and flawless.

11. Flame
Elaborate flame carvings combined with fascinating grain patterns.

The Castello “K” system

In addition to the finish designation, there is also the K grading. For smooth models, the number of “K”s indicates the quality of the grain. For rusticated or sandblasted pipes, it provides information about the size of the bowl. A “Collection KKKK” impresses with outstanding grain, while an “Old Antiquari KK” indicates a smaller format.
