The Barrio Viejo is currently sparking plenty of conversation – and rightfully so. Behind the brand is Thorsten Wolfertz, a well-known figure in the cigar scene. Based in Solingen, Germany, he made a name for himself as an importer of renowned cigars.
Barrio Viejo: From Cigar Importer to Own Label
He successfully established brands like Alec Bradley, Nicarao, A.J. Fernandez, Oliva, Condega, and Plasencia in the German market. With Barrio Viejo, Thorsten took a new path – leaving the role of trader and stepping into production. Thanks to his network, he was able to develop his own line in Honduras.
The exact factory where the cigars are rolled remains his secret. What’s clear, though, is that they’re made in a small manufactory in Danlí. But what really matters is what’s inside: filler and binder from Honduras, refined with a Nicaraguan wrapper.
Impressive Bundle Cigars: Barrio Viejo
The result: a well-balanced smoke with medium strength and plenty of character. And the price? It’ll definitely make you look twice. As bundle cigars, the Barrio Viejo offer a value-for-money combo that’s hard to beat.

Sounds like typical marketing? It’s not. Anyone who tries the Robusto will quickly notice: this is truly quality craftsmanship – for under five euros. A deal that’s hard to beat.
Transition to the Vandermarliere Cigar Family
Since January 1, 2023, Thorsten’s company has been part of the VCF (Vandermarliere Cigar Family). The Barrio Viejo brand was included in the acquisition. For fans of the line, that means: no worries, it’s here to stay. Thorsten is also still involved – now as Sales Director at VCF.
