Brentegani Pipes: Italian Craftsmanship Meets Nordic Design
To have the courage to make a living as a pipe maker, one needs a clear vision and passion. Michele Brentegani, born in 1989 in Italy, has proven just that. His conviction and exceptional craftsmanship have impressed us at Hacico, which is why we are proud to feature his pipes in our collection.
From Woodworking Projects to the Art of Pipe Making
Michele hails from the charming city of Verona. His love for wood was evident from an early age when he built bows and flutes. At the same time, he dedicated himself to traditional Chinese medicine and completed training in Tuina massage. It wasn't until 2015 that he began crafting pipes – a path that was far from straightforward. The spark was ignited when he saw a friend with a Churchwarden pipe. Enthralled by the sight, he carved his first pipe bowl from a piece of wood.
A Small Coincidence with Big Impact
When Michele searched for a suitable mouthpiece, his path led him to the Italian manufacturer Brebbia. Although the company typically only accepted bulk orders, they kindly sent him three mouthpieces for free. This unexpected gift sparked his passion for pipe making and solidified his connection to the Brebbia brand.
Michele Brentegani: An Artist on His Journey
As a self-taught craftsman, Michele began his journey into the world of pipe making. Over time, he exchanged ideas with other pipe makers and became a member of the Academia della pipa italiana in 2020. There, he learned from masters like Gabriele Dal Fiume and others, further developing his techniques and deciding to turn his passion into a profession.
Brentegani Pipes: Craftsmanship with Recognition
Inspired by the Danish school and English classics, Michele mostly crafts his Freehand pipes from Bruyère wood, occasionally also from Morta. Additionally, he is increasingly experimenting with olive wood, which stands out for its grain and workability. His distinctive azure-blue ebonite mouthpieces make each pipe a unique work of art.
