Caldwell: Cigars with Vision
The passion for cigars gripped Robert Caldwell at a young age. At just twelve years old, he reportedly tried his first cigar in a treehouse. Caught by his sister’s husband, Robert faced an unusual punishment for this "bad habit." He was taken to the factory of Ernesto Perez Carillo, where he was given a particularly strong cigar meant to deter him. Instead, the plan backfired—this cigar ignited Robert's passion for cigars.
Unique Partnerships
Years later, Robert entered the cigar business, supplying premium cigars to hotels and restaurants with a partner. The demand for private labels grew, prompting him to travel to Central America to learn more about production on-site. There, he discovered exceptional tobaccos, often rare or aged for an extended period. These gems were frequently unused due to their insufficient quantities for large productions or even limited editions.
These rare tobaccos formed the foundation of Robert's first proprietary blends. Together with Christian Eiroa, who re-entered the business after selling his brand Camacho to the Oettinger Davidoff Group, he founded the brand Wynnwood Cigars. The name refers to a neighborhood in Miami known for its art galleries and trendy nightlife.
The Journey to His Own Brand
In 2014, Robert ended the partnership to establish his own brand: Robert Caldwell. Initially, his cigars were produced at the Tabacalera William Ventura, a factory operated by the Ventura family. Just a year later, he began building his own production facility. Since summer 2015, most of his blends have been crafted there. An exception is the series Blind Man‘s Bluff, produced at a Tabacalera of the Oettinger Davidoff Group in Honduras—the same factory where the renowned Camachos are made.
The Caldwell brand represents premium boutique cigars with a distinctive and often bold flavor profile. Whether you choose Long Live the King, The King is Dead, Eastern Standard, or Hit & Run—the Caldwell universe is an experience for those seeking something special.
